September 2020 Giveaway: Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett
The main reason we like to do giveaways on Dad Suggests is because we really want to share some of our favorite books and games with other families out there. So it’s an obvious choice for us to give away a copy of Extra Yarn - the picture book that I crowned best of all time.

The book is illustrated by Jon Klassen, and it features a spectacular story that feels like a brand new classic fairy tale from the likes of the Brothers Grimm. It’s just masterfully crafted, and it’s undoubtedly an instant classic that deserves any praise it gets. I also love the small town snowscape setting that puts me in the mood for something like A Christmas Story or A Child’s Christmas in Wales.
Annabelle is such an amazing role model for kids - the way she refuses to sell her beloved magic box of yarn for any sum of money - and I love that the story leaves kids with the impression that finding what makes you happy is what’s most important in life. And there’s no shortage of good examples of patience and kindness as well. Annabelle is pretty fantastic.
And I can’t say enough good things about the art of Jon Klassen either. You’ll even see some familiar animal faces if you are a fan of his work. This partnership between Barnett and Klassen that has spanned several books now is the most exciting thing in picture books right now as far as I’m concerned. And Extra Yarn is the pinnacle.
